ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for an outstanding and creative Lead React Engineer who is looking to progress their career and take on a challenging and exciting role within a Digital Agency delivering new digital projects and supporting existing digital projects.

Working closely with our expert team of UX Designers, Web Developers and Account Managers, the Lead React Engineer will be given the flexibility and freedom to develop digital ideas and bring them to life on screen. They will join a growing and dynamic company to deliver digital user experiences that will delight our clients. The priority of the Lead React Engineer will be to take the creative front end development lead on digital projects (both greenfield and brownfield), ensuring that their technical output meets the standards expected by the Agency and the Brands we work with. This requires total immersion in our Clients businesses for the duration of a digital project and includes activities such as:

• Working with UX Designers to craft immersive and engaging experiences

• Supporting the test process to ensure websites adhere to the design specification


The Lead React Engineer is an exciting and varied role, and is critical to the success of digital projects.
On a daily basis the Lead React Engineer will use skills such as:

This role will be a foundational and key addition to our team as we grow our East Midlands based digital centre of excellence for next generation headless website and ecommerce delivery.


SPECIFIC ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead from the front, taking responsibility for all frontend development output ensuring the delivery of accurate and high-quality standard-compliant responsive websites from designs and mock-ups

• Support the engineering team in bringing React expertise domain knowledge into the architecting and delivery of projects.

• Delivery of accessible markup conforming to the WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 guidelines

• Working alongside the Development Manager to continually improve our front end development processes, practices, tools and techniques in-line with advancements and changes in technologies

• Implementation of structured JavaScript solutions using modern frameworks, with a core focus on React

• Implementation of Javascript applications interfacing with apis using GraphQL

• Support legacy JavaScript code implementations including JQuery, Angular 1 and Vanilla JS

• Share knowledge and experience with the wider fullstack development team as you help promote best working practices

EDUCATION / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• BSc or BA degree preferred.

• 5+ years of relevant React Web Development experience.

• 3+ years large enterprise or e-business systems experience.

• Commercial eCommerce experience.

• Commercial experience in delivering solutions in a JAMStack architecture.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The Lead React Engineer will have 5+ years’ experience across a range of technologies, platforms and projects and will have proven commercial experience of HTML5 and CSS3 (LESS/SASS), ‘Vanilla’ JavaScript and modern frameworks with a strong focus on React. Essential will be a proven solid commercial experience with building exceptional Frontend code ready for delivery via CMS, EMS, e-Commerce and also API integration with various Headless platforms.


ESSENTIAL

• Previous Digital Agency experience with a demonstrable track record working end-to-end on Digital projects.

• Demonstrable working experience as a Senior or Lead React Engineerfor CMS and eCommerce projects.

• Demonstrable working experience of architecting, building and managing component libraries and building in a way that is optimised for component reuse.

• Extensive experience using state management (e.g. Redux, Contexts)

• Extensive expert knowledge of HTML and CSS scripting [HTML5, CSS, LESS / SASS]

• Extensive expert knowledge of “Vanilla" JavaScript as well as JavaScript development tools [WebPack, ES6/ES7, LESS/SASS, Grunt, Babel, ESLint, Node JS / NPM]

• Extensive expert knowledge of building websites and apps using React.

• Strong experience of using styled components.

• Strong experience of implementing Storybook.

• Strong experience of mentoring junior staff in latest React best practice.

• Strong experience of using Apollo Client, GraphQL & REST APIs.

• Demonstrable experience of using Javascript unit testing frameworks and tools [MochaJS, Jasmine, AVA, JEST]

• Knowledge and understanding of WCAG 2.0 & 2.1 guidelines

• Experience with Git version control systems

• Candidate must be comfortable in challenging customer feedback in order to preserve the integrity of the design if they believe a Clients’ feedback to be damaging to the success of the project

• Candidate must be an exceptionally clear communicator including facilitation, presentation and written skills and must have the ability to be pragmatic and drive strong scope management disciplines

• Candidate must have good organisational skills and experience of working to deadlines and protecting the overall flow and cadence of a project plan

• Candidate must possess an obsession for QA discipline to ensure all development work meets requirements and client expectations


DESIRABLE

• Experience of working on with the JAMStack architecture implementing websites and apps across headless technologies and microservice infrastructure

• Experience of working on Accessible websites an advantage

• Experience of building sites using static site builder such as GatsbyJS a strong advantage

• Any experience of building websites and apps using other modern frameworks such as Vue.JS or Angular JS

• Any more fullstack experience with Node.JS, Apollo Server would be a great benefit.
